The Jordans referenced here start with WILLIAM JORDAN as noted on the ancestor chart, migrating from England to the USA ca. 1655 to Virgina, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois and Indiana.
The seven sons of Thomas Jordan Sr, their wives, sisters, and friends, traveled to Southern Illinois and in 1804, Francis Jordan built a fort for protection against the Indians in Franklin and Williamson counties. The present day town of West Frankfort bears his name. The history of Southern Illinois describes many accomplishments of the Jordan families, such as ferry services across the Ohio River, to establishing communities such as the one in White County (Enfield), and those in neighboring counties in Indiana.
